Volvo Concept Coupe revealed - modern "reincarnation" of the iconic P1800 [videos]

When Volvo teased the Concept Coupe earlier this wee they promised something iconic and cutting edge.

Here it is and looks like most people who have seen the pictures of it so far just love it! Volvo calls the Concept Coupe already the next-generation P1800 and we see no reason why not.

The Concept Coupe rides on a new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) blending elements from the past and also new design possibilities for the future. Two more concept cars using the same architecture will follow soon showing what we can expect from future Volvo models.

The Concept Coupe design highlights include a sporty front, new T-shaped LED daytime running lights, a floating grille, low bonnet, panoramic glass roof, 21-inch alloys wheels and a rear end that reminds us the iconic 1800.

The luxurious interior boasts handcrafted elements like leather instrument panel, premium leather upholstery, naturally aged wood trim, gloss black accents, blue woven carpets, as well as a head-up display and a large touchscreen infotainment system.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre Drive-E petrol engine with a supercharger and turbo linked to an electric motor at the rear. Combined power output is around 400 hp and over 600 Nm of torque.

“The Volvo Concept Coupé is no futuristic dream car. It is designed to demonstrate the capability of our new architecture: the confident stance, the proportions and the most prominent design signatures. Even though the all-new XC90 is an entirely different type of car, you will recognise the connection instantly when it is revealed next year,” says new Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath.

We seriously hope it is more than a concept previewing new design language and the capability of the new architecture.
