Volkswagen Taking 300+ mpg XL1 Into Limited Production
Volkswagen has announced plans to build the XL1 prototype in very limited series, starting in 2013. The latest version of the so-called one-litre car, the Formula XL1 made its world debut yesterday at the Qatar Motor Show.
Volkswagen will build 100 XLs at first, and obviously if there’s enough demand and the production costs are reasonable they will continue.
Volkswagen has not confirmed yet, will the production model feature the same 48bhp two-cylinder TDI engine, 27bhp electric motor, lithium-ion battery pack and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as the concept, which delivers an amazing 319mpg (0.9L/100 km).
The Formula XL1 Concept has an electronically limited to speed of 100mph and it reaches 0-62mph in 11.9 seconds. Purely on electric power, the XL1 can travel for 22 miles.
