UPDATE! After careful comparison with the new seventh-generation Golf we are now sure that the heavily disguised prototype here is the new Golf Variant not the next-generation Volkswagen Passat Variant as we suspected at first.
Thanks everyone for pointing it out!

The new Golf Variant is expected to arrive in early 2013 with the same engine range found in the standard model. All engines come with a Stop/Start system as standard, along with battery regeneration. Depending on the engine, gearboxes include five- and six-speed manuals, and six- and seven-speed DSG units.
