Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept debuts at the Shanghai Auto Show

Volkswagen has revealed the CrossBlue Coupe Concept at the 2013 Auto Shanghai. The CrossBlue Coupe Concept follows the seven-seater CrossBlue SUV Concept which made its debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show.

The CrossBlue Coupe is a five-seater concept previewing the future of new VW SUV design and just like the seven-seater concept is expected to enter production.

The CrossBlue Coupe has a sloping roofline, angled windscreen and a lower front end compared to the more practical seven-seater concept. The CrossBlue Coupé is exactly 4,889 mm long, 2,015 mm wide and 1,679 mm high giving it a very low and sporty look.

Power comes from a new plug-in petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which combines a 295bhp 3.0-litre V6 TSI and two electric motors for a combined power output of 409bhp and 700 Nm of torque and will be offered on different future VW models.

There are five driving modes available: eco, sport, off-road, electric vehicle and charge. In purely EV mode the vehicle can drive for up to 20.5 miles with a top speed of 74.5mph. With full power 0-62mph comes in 5.9 seconds and the top speed is 146mph.

In hybrid mode average fuel economy is 94.1mpg and when powered purely by the 3.0-litre V6 TSI it has an average fuel economy of 40.9mpg.
