Volkswagen Amarok video challenge with new standard 3.0-litre V6 engine

Having launched a power pick-up concept at a GTI enthusiasts’ meeting in Austria back in 2013, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have now put this high power engine in their 2017 Amarok premium pick-up as standard. The new Amarok has both comfortable and sporty additions that will please utility and city drivers, ensuring that everyone is able to experience the best of both worlds.

The Trailblazers Challenge

In the video below, the team behind Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles asked two off-road enthusiasts to test some of the latest features on the roads of the Lake District. This shows the power of the Amarok’s new engine working over large bedrock, but in fact the vehicle can make light work of 50˚side angles and inclines up to 45˚.

The challenge shows the drivers loading bales of hay and fence posts into the pick-up but, due to the wide payload, the Amarok can actually house a Euro pallet between the wheel arches and loads of up to 3.5 tonnes. That’s as well as having a towing capacity of 3.1 tonnes, using the trailer hitch that comes as standard.

Styling and comfort

Volkswagen dubs the Amarok as being ‘just as comfortable off road as on’, and there are a couple of interesting new interior features. The optional ergoComfort 14-way seats that won a Healthy Back Campaign award and a digital voice enhancement system so back-seat passengers can hear you clearly in the front.

The streamlined new dashboard houses the central infotainment system with a DAB+ radio, voice control and AppConnect. While outside there’s a sporty new grille and options for bi-xenon headlights, rear styling bars and 19” alloys.

The new Amarok is available now from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles retailers starting at £27,135.
