Volkswagen Amarok Expedition truck is the coolest official vehicle of the Sochi Winter Olympics

While media is joking about the unfinished Sochi Olympic Village, there are also some cool noteworthy vehicles in service during the Winter Olympic Games.

Volkswagen is the official vehicle partner of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics with a 3,000 vehicle fleet that includes Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen vehicles.

The vehicle you see above is called Amarok Expedition truck and clearly the most insane of the fleet with 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines, huge tyres and heavy-duty long-travel suspension.

Three trucks were originally built for the 9,942 mile expedition from Moscow to the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Kamchatka peninsula, earning the team a Guinness World Record for the longest off-road journey through a single country. The whole trip took 66 days and the trucks are now

The body is largely stock, except the fenders, which were cut to fit the huge tyres and wheels. For added safety there is also a roll cage and extra navigation.

Toyota has their Arctic Truck edition of the Hilux and Volkswagen clearly now needs to take this Amarok Expedition Truck into production. Until then, Volkswagen is offering the Amarok Sochi Special Edition in Russia with new chrome trim, 18-inch alloy wheels, navigation and an updated interior.
