Rob Horsfield’s turbocharged Toyota MR2 again dominated the field in Saturday’s 750 Motor Club Cartek 45-minute endurance race on the sun-drenched Silverstone National circuit, finishing 26.29 seconds ahead of Anthony Day in another MR2.
Echoing their qualifying times for Class A, the pair had been pursued by David Gardner and Chris Mills sharing a Ginetta G27R at the head of Class B, but their car was forced into retirement after 16 laps. Matt Cherrington teamed with Martin Gambling in their BMW Z3 which landed the Class B win.
There were Porsches a-plenty with Rogue Xenon regular Leighton Norris having just bought a 944 with John Sadler and the pair were very happy with their Class C win having not even tested the car on track before the Friday. Steve Hewson and Robert Gilham powered their deceptive 924 to second in Class B with its 968 3-litre engine, while Rebecca Jackson jumped from 9th in qualifying to 5th overall and third in Class for her first Roadsports podium in the Turtlewax Boxster.
Sadly the Lotuses were not so successful with neither David Sharp/Tina Cooper and Anthony Sharpe/David Scarborough’s Elises making the finish.
The next round of the series is on the Snetterton 200 circuit on Spring bank holiday Monday 26th May.
