What you see here is a track-only RenaultSport R.S. 01 race car with carbon fibre monocoque meeting LMP1 regulations weighing less than 1,100kg.
Power comes from a mid-mounted Nissan GT-R sourced 3.8 litre V6 twin-turbo engine producing over 500bhp and 442 lb-ft of torque, tweaked by NISMO.
All that power is sent to the rear wheels via seven-speed Sadev sequential gearbox good for top speeds over 186mph.
Yes that’s basically a lighter GT-R with a mid-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. Sounds good!
The R.S. 01 measures 4710mm in length, 2000mm in width and 1166mm in heigh. The wheelbase is 2744mm and the front and rear track are 1675mm and 1624mm respectively.
All this rides on 18-inch Braid wheels fitted with specially developed Michelin tyres, hiding 380mm carbon discs with six-piston calipers.
The R.S. 01 will be used next year at the World Series by Renault in a new championship, the Renaultsport Trophy, a “springboard for the professional GT and Endurance championships”. If you want to participate, the R.S. 01 is priced from £282,000.
While there is no word about a possible road going model, we have a feeling there is also a toned down street legal version without the big rear wing and huge diffuser also in works.
