Spy shots: Next gen 2016 BMW 5 Series starts testing

The new BMW 5 Series facelift was revealed just couple of months ago with production starting this month.

As you can see the Munich based automaker has also started work on the next generation 5 Series, showing the early stage prototype in Touring variant.

Details are limited, but the new model will be much lighter, thanks to carbon fibre technologies, which the next gen 7 Series (G11) will also receive.

Expect to see a new range of fuel efficient engines, as well as new tech from updated infotainment and communication systems to fully automated driving in traffic.

The new 5 Series is expected to debut in late 2015.
