Spy Shots: 2012 1 Series (F20 Hatchback)

The next-generation 1 Series hatchback (codenamed F20) has been spotted testing in Germany and will be available in three and five door variants, featuring a longer wheelbase and wider track than the current model when it arrives later this year.

The styling will be similar to the rest of the new BMW range. The headlights look very similar to those found on the 5 Series GT and the bonnet is more upright than on the current model, reminding us the new 5 Series. Overall design can be summed up as more aggressive and angular.

Engine line-up will consist of different 4 and 6 cylinder engines. Both naturally aspirated and turbocharged. Very likely a 3 cylinder engine could make its debut in the new 1 Series as well.

The next 1 Series is expected to make its public debut at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA motorshow in September.
