Smart Escooter Confirmed For Production, Market Launch In 2014

Smart is taking another step towards electric future and new products. Just recently the company announced an ebike, that is now available to pre-order, an electric fortwo arrives this summer and soon an electric scooter will be available as well.

“The decision in favor of the escooter has been made,” announced Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars, on the sidelines of the international dealer meeting in Davos, Switzerland. “With this step, we are adding a further important component to our smart mobility concept for urban mobility in the future,” he added.

The concept, that debuted two years ago at the Paris Motor Show was powered by a 48-volt lithium-ion battery which powered a 4 kW electric wheel hub motor, enabling the escooter to travel up to 62 miles at speeds up to 30 mph.
