Shelby American introduces the 50th Anniversary Cobra 427

The iconic AC Cobra was launched in 1962 as an American-engined British sports car and in 1964 a more powerful Cobra 427 was revealed with a Ford 427 engine (7.0 L) rated at 425bhp.

Now in its 50th anniversary, the Shelby American has unveiled the 50th Anniversary 427 Cobra that will be offered with either an aluminium or fiberglass body.

The fiberglass model will feature a Guardsman Blue exterior with Wimbledon White stripes, while aluminium-bodied variants can be ordered with a polished aluminium exterior.

There are also 50th anniversary badges, racing brakes, custom gauges, vinyl seats, 15-inch wheels and a 50th anniversary car cover.

Just 50 cars will be built and pricing starts at $119,995 not including the engine and transmission. So basically even though the badges say 427 you could put there an early AC two-litre straight six, though obviously the big V8 is the right way to do it.
