Renault Planning A New Supermini Inspired By The Original R5

The original R5 is serving as an inspiration for Renault’s latest project in progress: Premium Supermini. Renault hopes that this revamped R5 will make its presence felt even stronger in the flourishing market of small cars. Supermini will be launched as a competition for Mini, Citroën DS3 and Fiat 500.

The original supermini used to be a winner during 70s and 80s until it was replaced by Supercinq. The design plans however are at an early stage and Renault is thinking of architecture that is a perfect combo of retro and modern looks.

Market insiders believe that Renault took inspiration from VW’s decision to re-launch Microbus and Beetle. Only time can tell though, whether Premium Supermini becomes a competent successor to R5 or not!
