Porsche Cayman R revealed – more power, less weight
The Cayman R is 55 kilograms lighter and with ten horsepower more than the Cayman S. Power comes from a tuned 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine developing 325bhp.
When equipped with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, it takes 5.0 seconds to reach 62 mph. With the option of the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) acceleration time is down to 4.9 seconds. If that’s not fast enough, you can equip your Cayman R with the Sport Chrono package and you will hit 62 mph in 4.7 seconds.
Top speed with the manual gearbox is 175 mph and 174 mph with PDK. The Cayman R weighs 1,295 kilograms, largest savings were achieved through the use of lightweight components and doing without convenience equipment.
For example the complete rim set weighs less than 40 kg. Other changes compared to the Cayman S include a lowered body by 20 mm, fixed rear spoiler, silver-painted wheels, black-framed headlights, black exterior mirrors and the “PORSCHE” lettering on the side. UK pricing starts at £51,731 including VAT.
