Porsche 918 Spyder gets driven by Jay Leno [video]

During the Pebble Beach weekend Jay Leno already took a closer look at the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept.

In this recent episode of Jay Leno’s Garage we also get to see the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder.

Leno talks first with Frank Walliser, head of the 918 Spyder’s development and then goes for a quick drive. It is pretty amazing to hear how the transition works between the all-electric drive and a high-revving V8. The exhaust note is just amazing!

As a refresher the 918 Spyder is powered by a 887 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a mid-mounted 4.6-litre V8 delivering 608 hp and a hybrid module on rear axle producing 115 kW and electric motor on front axle another 95 kW.

0-62 mph comes in 2.8 seconds, 0-186 mph in 23.0 seconds and the top speed is 211 mph. In purely EV mode the top speed is 93 mph and range 10-16 miles.

The production version will debut already next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
