Pictures: MINI says happy 50th birthday to Porsche 911

MINI has released a very friendly press release wishing Porsche 911 happy 50th birthday.

The classic Porsche 911 and MINI in yellow together are a very nice combo and something we would love to see in person.

This comes as a little surprise as back in 2010 Jim McDowell, then MINI’s top man in the USA, challenged Porsche to a race-off at the Road Atlanta circuit. Porsche refused obviously and MINI then did the whole race itself with Porsche 911 winning the Cooper S by two seconds. MINI then went as far as saying that each of those seconds would cost a Porsche driver 38,000 US dollars given the disparity in purchase prices.

MINI says it may be the fundamental differences between the two cars (e.g. the Mini has its engine in the front, the 911 at the rear) that dominate at first glance, but only a handful of cars can claim to have endured over such lengthy time spans, retaining their unmistakable identities despite all the nips, tucks and updates along the way.

This is definitely one of our favourite press releases in a very long time so sit back enjoy the pictures and read the full text below.
