Peugeot 208 – First Photos Of The 207 Successor (updated)

Peugeot 208 prototypeHere we have the very first photos of the Peugeot 207 successor, that most likely will be called 208, though there are rumors that Peugeot will start giving their new cars actual names instead of numbers.

Styling will follow the same direction as we have already seen on the 508. Even though the prototype is heavily disguised we can see the LED daytime driving stripe on the front lights and a short rear overhang.

The engine line-up for the 208 will start with a three cylinder petrol engine. Part of the range are also different diesels and the top of the range four cylinder petrol unit in the GTi version is expected to produce around 200bhp. All engines are expected to feature a start-stop system.

The 208 family will include the 3 and 5 door hatch versions, a roomier SW version and also a CC version. Expected launch is sometimes in 2012. Rumor is that Peugeot is also working on a smaller SUV/Crossover based on the 208. Stay tuned for more details!

    I do not like it one bit. I always loved the 206 and the newer 206 plus, only available everywhere except for the UK,because of its front feline lights and perfect proportions. When the 207 came out I thought the proportions were totally wrong, Giant badge, the rear end too wide and not tapered in at the bottom end of the bumper to show off the width of the wheels, basically too clumsy looking, more like a 307 as it shared the same platform with it. Now the new 208 looks more like an entry level Volvo. Basically peugeot can never make great rear ends. We only bought them because of the ground breaking high positioned front feline lights. But have now gone as it appears on the 208, and are positioned really low, more like a new gen focus with a really broad bonnet. How boring and humble looking. I could design more attractive and positioned lights. I wont be buying one!!!
