Nissan Qashqai on the Road to Success

Despite not even being officially released yet, the 2014 Nissan Qashqai has most certainly made an impression amongst car experts and enthusiasts alike.

After recently being named Car of the Year as well as Best Small SUV by What Car?, the new and improved Qashqai has taken a large step-up from its first-generation predecessor, with a range of new technological features and driver-friendly tweaks.

Overall, the latest generation of models boasts an impressive spec and cleaner driving ability that makes them ideal for navigating urban environments. What Car? particularly famed the 1.5 dCi Acenta 2WD model, highlighting its upscale features, drivability and low running costs.

Slightly longer, wider and lower, the Qashqai has polished its looks from front to back, with a new V grille design, sharpened lines, daytime running lights and LED backlights. Inside, the quality cabin boasts soft-touch plastics and piano-black trim, alongside supportive seats with special bolsters for added comfort and support. With lots of leg- and headroom for front and back passengers, the generous boot space adds further to its practicality, making it one of the largest in the small SUV class.

Nissan has also called the Qashqai the ‘World’s Most Parkable Car’, referring to its intelligent Park Assist System that enables it to manoeuvre into spaces as tight as 80cm longer than the car itself, with the driver only needing to move the car forward and back.

The full range of models includes the Visia, Acenta, Acenta Premium and Tekna, with a choice of four turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options, all offering a good balance between performance, affordability and economy.

In 2013 alone, over 286,000 of the cars built in Nissan’s Sunderland were Nissan Qashqais. Now in its eighth year of production and the best-selling Crossover in Europe, total Qashqai production in the UK now stands at 1,752,232. It is also down to sheer demand for the model that the plant’s output exceeded 500,000 units for the second year running.

All in all, it seems fair to say that if the new Qashqai manages to drive sales the way it does interest, it is sure to be another successful year ahead for Nissan.
