The new seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf is now available to order as a BlueMotion variant with an average fuel economy of 88.3 mpg, and CO2 emissions of just 85 g/km.
Compared to the previous-generation model, the new Golf BlueMotion’s fuel economy is 15 per cent better and with its 50-litre fuel tank has a theoretical range of 970 miles.
If you are an average UK driver and your annual driving distance is under 10,000 miles, you would have to refuel just 10 times a year.
The new Golf BlueMotion is powered by a 110bhp 1.6-litre TDI from the new EA288 engine series producing 5bhp more power than in non-BlueMotion models.
The reduction in combined fuel consumption has been achieved through lightweight design, engine-related modifications, improved aerodynamic drag, along with super low rolling resistance tyres with higher air pressure, longer gear ratios on six-speed manual gearbox, the Stop/Start and battery regeneration system.
The three-door Golf BlueMotion starts at £20,335 and from £20,990 for the five-door.
