New Subaru WRX STI debuts in Detroit, confirmed for UK return [video]

Less than a year ago the last WRX STI was sold in the UK and it was uncertain will UK ever get the new STI model.

The new model has been revealed at the Detroit Auto Show, and Subaru UK has confirmed the new WRX STI is coming to these shores in summer priced from £28,995 when, some £4,000 cheaper than its predecessor. Not bad!

The new WRX STI is based on the WRX saloon car launched at the LA show in November, featuring an aggressive body kit with a huge rear wing and a 300bhp 2.5-litre turbo-charged Subaru Boxer four-pot engine linked to six-speed gearbox and power sent to the road via Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with a multi-mode driver-controlled center mechanical differential.

New model has a longer wheelbase (+25mm) and also the A-pillars have been moved forward by 200mm, improving driver’s visibility all round.

Boot space is also increased, though Subaru did not mention exact numbers.

Interior is also improved with a new D-shaped steering wheel of smaller diameter, along with soft touch materials, new dials and carbon effect and metal trim.
