The new Mercedes S-Class Coupe was revealed last month exclusively with a 448bhp 4.7-litre V8 biturbo.
Mercedes-Benz has now unveiled a more powerful S 63 AMG Coupe ahead of its public debut at next month’s New York Auto Show.
The sleek two-door S 63 AMG is powered by a 577bhp 5.5-litre V8 biturbo with 664 lb-ft of torque linked to AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. That’s 41bhp and 74 lb-ft more than in the outgoing CL 63 AMG.
The new model is also 65kg lighter than its predecessor, weighing 1995kg and offering a power-to-weight ratio of 3.41 kg / bhp.
0-62mph comes in an impressive 4.3 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 155mph. Combined fuel economy is 27.9 mpg.
The 4MATIC variant does 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds but is limited to only for left-hand drive configuration.
The S 63 AMG Coupé with rear-wheel drive also features AMG sports suspension based on MAGIC BODY CONTROL, a curve tilting function, which allows it to lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier.
Other tech highlights include ROAD SURFACE SCAN and Active Body Control (ABC) as standard.
Typical to AMG models, the S 63 AMG Coupe features sportier and more aggressive bumpers, larger vents, new side skirts, and a quad exhaust with chromed tailpipes.
All this rides on 19-inch titanium grey multi-spoke AMG forged light alloy wheels wrapped around in 255/45 R19 and 285/40 R19 tyres.
Ceramic composite brakes and 20-inch ten-spoke AMG Performance Studio wheels are optional.
UK market launch is end of 2014 with pricing and final specs to be confirmed.
