New BMW 6 Series Convertible revealed

Usually fixed roof coupe versions are revealed before convertibles. BMW is changing the game by revealing first details and photos of the new 6 Series Convertible.

Top of the range, 650i Convertible will be powered by twin-turbocharged 400bhp 4.4-litre V8 and 450 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a ZF 8-speed Sport Automatic gearbox it takes 4.9 seconds to reach 60 mph. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The base 640i gets a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six with 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. More engines will be added later, including a turbodiesel with close to 300 bhp. M6 is also already in development with the new twin-turbo V8 that produces over 550bhp.

Opening the roof takes just 19 seconds and the closing 24 seconds, which can be done at speeds up to 25 mph. Overall dimensions are 4,894 millimeters in length, 1,894 millimeters in width and 1,365 mm in height. While the top is open the trunk space is 300 litres and 350 litres when closed.

Other highlights are Roll-Over Protection System, Rear-View, Top View, and Side View Cameras, Body strength is 29 percent greater than on its predecessor and the Static torsional rigidity is about 50 percent greater than that of its predecessor.
