New Audi A6 Avant Revealed

The new Audi A6 Avant promises more interior space and greater fuel efficiency than the model it replaces. Wheelbase has grown to 2.91m (an increase by 7cm), it is 4.93m long, 1.87m wide and 1.46m tall. Compared to the outgoing model it weighs up to 70kg less depending on the engine, thanks to extensive use of aluminium.

The luggage compartment has a capacity of up to 1,680 litres and offers features like power rear hatch that opens in response to a sensor signal.

When it comes to powertrains. Two petrol and four diesel units will be offered with power ranging from 174bhp to 308bhp, while fuel consumption has been reduced by as much as 18 percent compared with the previous model.

The most fuel efficient unit is the 2.0 TDI with 174bhp and when paired with a manual gearbox delivers 56.5mpg. Top of the range 3.0 TDI with twin-turbo technology delivers 308bhp, taking the A6 Avant to 62mph in 5.4sec and to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

Sales are expected to start in late summer, with prices starting from around £30k.
