New 2015 Škoda Superb revealed, market launch in June

Škoda has unveiled the new third-generation Superb in front of 800 international guests in Forum Karlín in Prague.

The Superb is a very important model for Skoda and the new model brings many changes to keep it fresh and competitive.

Currently only the saloon was shown, featuring a more upscale evolutionary design with a slender grille, sculpted bonnet, gently sloping roofline, shorter front overhangs, standard LED taillights, optional bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and wht Škoda calls a “tornado line” that spans the length of the vehicle.

The wheelbase has grown by 80 mm, while the front vehicle overhang is 61 mm shorter than before.

The interior is typical to Škoda, revealing a very clean and modest design that can be equipped with four new infotainment systems including one that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There are also 29 ‘Simply Clever’ features including a rear seat tablet holder, an LED flashlight and an umbrella in each of the front doors.

Notable safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Crew Protect Assist, Lane Asssit, Traffic Jam Assist and a new Emergency Assist system that automatically brings the vehicle to a stop if the driver is incapacitated.

Engine line-up includes eight different units all with stop/start technology. The five petrol units produce between 125 hp and 280 PS (206 kW), while the three TDIs pack from 120 hp to 190 hp.

Except for the entry-level petrol version, all engines are available with modern dual-clutch transmission. Four engines are available with all-wheel drive based on the Haldex 5 clutch.

The space has always been a big part of Superb’s notable features and the new model is no exception. The driver and front seat passenger enjoy 39 mm more elbow room and more headroom. The rear space has 157 mm of legroom, the headroom measures 980 mm and the rear elbow room has increased by 69 mm. The 625-litre boot capacity is 30 litres more than in the second-generation Superb.

The new model is up to 75 kg lighter with improved aerodynamics. Depending on the engine the new Superb offers up to 30 per cent lower fuel consumption values and emissions. The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine fuel economy is a very impressive 76 mpg emitting just 95 g CO2 per km.
