MINI has finally unveiled the new MINI John Cooper Works production model, which was previewed a year ago by a concept model at the Detroit Motor Show.

Powered by a 228bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the new MINI JCW is the most powerful production MINI ever, featuring also an upgraded suspension, steering, sportier styling and brakes.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new 2.0-litre turbocharged engine packs 10 per cent more power and 23 per cent more torque, at 320Nm, taking it from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox (0.2 second improvement compared to to the old model) or 6.1 seconds with the optional six-speed Steptronic auto.

In-gear acceleration is 10 per cent faster, while 50-75mph takes 5.6 seconds.

Visually the new MINI JCW features larger cooling air inlets, new radiator grille, new side sills, new rear apron, JCW rear spoiler, LED headlamps with white direction indicators, wheel arch surround with distinctive contours, a sports exhaust system with special tailpipes, new Rebel Green body paint finish and 17-inch John Cooper Works Race Spoke light alloy wheels

Other notable under the skin updates include newly developed Brembo sports brake system, an electromechanical power steering with Servotronic, a Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC), Performance Control, and an optional Dynamic Damper Control.

The interior reveals new bucket seats finished in a quilted ‘Dinamica’ fabric, stainless steel pedals, redesigned instrument displays and key fob, as well as optional head-up display that is customised for the JCW with rev lights and a gear-indicator.

The new MINI JCW is priced from £22,865, with first UK deliveries in late April 2015.
