Taking a step away from the cars you usually see on this site, we’d like to talk about our list of most reliable cars of the last decade. The criteria that go into reviewing these cars include a reliable transmission (that doesn’t require lots of transmission maintenance or transmission service), an engine that lasts, and other factors that make for a reliable, innovative car. Reliability is often the most looked for quality in a car which is why many of the cars in this list also have high sales. And although Japanese makes such as Toyota and Honda were regarded as the most reliable car manufacturers, these days their competitors are catching up fast. So with that being said, here are the most reliable cars of the last decade.
Most Reliable Cars of The Last Decade
1. Honda Accord
The Honda Accord has been around since 1976 and is still going strong to this day. The Accord is one of the best selling cars in the United States since 1989, and its reliability plays a big role in that. Even to this day the Accord still stands as testament to the quality and precision that Honda is capable of. You can’t go wrong with a quality sedan like the Honda Accord, complete with a long lasting engine, affordability, and superior reliability on the road.
2. Subaru Forester
Subaru is no stranger to the car industry, and the crossover SUV Forester has been crowned as Motor Trend’s 2014 SUV of the year and the Car Connection’s Best Car to Buy in 2014. Introduced in 1997 this compact, sporty car is constantly being improved with each and every model.
3. Mazda MX-5
Some might know the MX-5 as the Miata although it’s called the Roadster in Japan, this lightweight two seat car has what everyone wants in a car: good looks, rear wheel drive, great engine, sweet handling, and long lasting.
4. Mitsubishi Carisma
Although the Mitsubishi Carisma isn’t being manufactured anymore, this car definitely makes our list of reliable cars of the last decade. Running from 1995 to 2004, the Carisma might not look that hot but it sure won’t let you down on the road.
5. Toyota Yaris
The Yaris is just another car in Toyota’s great lineup and has been performing well on the road since 1999. This Supermini doesn’t require much explanation. Lots of room and a responsive engine is what makes it great.
6. Honda Civic
You’ve seen one before and you don’t need us to tell you what it’s like, the Honda Civic has been selling well ever since it came out. The Civic has sold 16.5 million cars as of 2006, with 7.3 million of them in the United States. The awesome gas economy is also just another perk with this car, along with a solid build and a quality engine that mechanics despise.
7. Toyota Prius
The Prius was first introduced in Japan in 1997 and today is known as the full hybrid electric mid size hatchback that just doesn’t stop giving. Not only is it one of the cleanest vehicles but it hardly breaks down either, which is why it makes our list of most reliable cars of the last decade.
