Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Revealed

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the SLS AMG Black Series, which will go on sale June 2013. The SLS AMG Black Series comes with more power, less weight and aerodynamic updates.

Power comes from a modified 6.3-litre V8 engine that delivers 631 hp (up from 571 hp in the standard model).

0-62mph is improved by 0.2 seconds, standing now at 3.6 seconds, the top speed is 196 mph. Average fuel economy is 20.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 321 g/km.

The SLS AMG Black Series is distinguished from the standard model with 20mm and 24mm wider front and rear tracks, new 20-inch lightweight forged alloys, carbon fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and standard carbon ceramic brakes (an £8,140 GBP option for the standard model).

The new carbon fibre diffuser incorporates new quad tailpipes, while the new titanium-made exhaust system weighs only 17 kg, making it 13 kg lighter than the standard one.

There is also a new electronic locking differential, a carbon fibre driveshaft, adaptive sports suspension and launch control.

The interior reveals a carbon fibre center console and new lightweight sports seats (-15kg compared to the standard ones), Alcantara wrapped steering wheel.

COMAND multimedia system was also removed to save 6kg, while the lithium-ion battery saves another 8kg. If you want, MB will fit the COMAND multimedia system for free. That 6kg is not very likely doing any damage to improved performance numbers…

Overall weight thanks to different lightweight materials is 1550kg (-70kg).

Pricing will be announced closer to market launch , but we expect the SLS AMG Black Series to cost around £300k.
