What really gets most people going is under the bonnet. Power comes from a 333bhp 3.0–litre V6 biturbo petrol engine and an electric motor producing 116bhp, for a combined output of 442bhp and 650Nm of torque.
As a result the S 500 plug-in hybrid accelerates from 0-62mph in just 5.2 seconds before topping out at an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. In purely EV mode the range is 20 miles and average fuel economy is a very impressive 100.9mpg with CO2 emissions of just 65 g/km.
Production will start next month with first cars arriving in UK in late November.
