McLaren has finally released a video footage of the P1 hybrid supercar lapping the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The video is just great and shows how fast the P1 is on this very demanding track. What McLaren did say is how fast it was.
As we all know Porsche 918 Spyder did it in 6:57, making it the fastest production car around the ‘Ring.
McLaren did mention the P1 did it in under seven minutes, but does not go into specific details. People, including automakers can say the Nürburgring time is not important, but it is a big part of marketing and if possible they all release the numbers in case the time is “the fastest” in certain engine category or model type.
Could it be that McLaren P1’s time is then under 7 minutes but above 6:57? Hard to tell as some sources claim the P1 ran a 6:47 on street tyres and a 6:33 on slicks. The reason they reportedly have not released the time is to see time time for LaFerrari, which is still testing.
Whatever the actual time is it is an amazing car.
Powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and a lightweight electric motor for a combined power output of 903bhp it goes from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds, 0-124mph comes in 6.8 seconds, 0-186mph in just 16.5 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 217mph (350 km/h).
Production will be limited to 375 cars and prices start from £866,000. The bad news is that all 375 cars are already sold with first customers already driving they cars.
