Choosing a new car is not an easy task. There are lots of factors to consider from personal taste to price. But once the decision is made another decision has to be made, that could also result in changing your future car choice if the insurance is too expensive. How can you pick the best deal from all the different insurance companies?
To get your car insurance quote from different companies check out CompareTheMarket.com.
CompareTheMarket.com is an insurance comparison website, that also offers home, pet, life, utilities, money and travel insurance quotes.
I am currently on the market to buy a Porsche 911 (type 964). To me the 964 is the best looking 911 ever produced and I would love to get the Turbo, but the hard truth is it is too expensive and the standard Carrera 2 is what I have been checking on different classified site. I have not thought about the insurance for it yet, so here is a good chance to see what I will be paying soon.
If you already own a car you simply enter the registration number to have most of the form pre-filled and in case you don’t have it there is a step by step process to enter all the details, which is very simple and well guided.
The system is quite smart, though for some reason I have to tell it twice, that the car has two doors.
The quote form also asks me the value of the car, which is around £25k. The system is very smart with newer cars and when I entered there my friends 2005 Renault Megane it gave a very close market value. I realize a 20 year old 911 is not an average car and it is not easy to estimate its market value.
After that I am also asked about the planned usage and personal details along with your Claims & convictions, Driving history and also will your future car have any additional drivers.
There are lot of forms to fill and in case for example you check that you have had any motor accidents or made any claims in the past five years, then another form pops up and you need to fill it as well. It might sound like a whole lot, but all these details help give you a better quote.
Finally it is time for Policy details. I can’t wait to see the quote for my future 911.
In case you don’t understand what the question is really about just click the question mark and a small text box appears with more details.
Finally I enter my contact details(I don’t like phone calls so I just enter my email address. I highly recommend that you don’t enter the phone number – email is so much easier and gives you more privacy compared to annoying sales people) and there I have 28 different insurance quotes. Instantly an email also arrives in my inbox with a subject line: “Andrew, £603.14 is your cheapest price from comparethemarket.com”
That’s not bad at all, the highest quote from 28 companies is way over £3k. When you are done you can always play with the quote form and change policy details or even the vehicle. Once you pick the insurance company you click “Go to insurer” and there you have it all pre-filled ready for payment.
CompareTheMarket.com has a very clean and minimalistic design, though at first the heavy blue and green seemed a bit too much. After couple of minutes I got used to the colours and really enjoyed going from one form to another.
It does seem that the nicely designed form fields load a little slower than the standard ones we are used to seeing on the web, but that could be also due to my Internet connection.
Surely time consuming, but getting an insurance quote does take a little longer than tweeting about what your cat just did… Should I also get an insurance quote for my cat now?
… and as a little bonus for buying a car insurance through CompareTheMarket.com you will get a toy meerkat delivered to your door.
