Four-door coupes are everywhere, though it still confuses me when someone mentions the word ‘four-door coupe’. After all even wikipedia still describes the coupe as a closed two-door car body style with a permanently attached fixed roof.
The big luxury three from Germany (Audi, Mercedes and BMW) not just have one model with a four-door coupe bodystyle, but two.
BMW has the 4 Series and 6 Series Gran Coupe. Audi is known for the A5 and A7 Sportbacks, while Mercedes-Benz, who started it all has the CLS and a more compact CLA.
Lexus is competing for the same customers in large, but what they still lack is a four-door coupe.
Reportedly they have one already in development roughly the size of the GS, though it will be 2-3 years most likely before it hits the market.
What if they also introduced a smaller four-door coupe going against the BMW 4 Series Grans Coupe?
Talented artist Theophilus Chin has now imagined a more compact four-door coupe based on the RC coupe, which he calls the RC GT.
He shortens the front doors of the RC coupe, making room for rear doors and creates a new sloping roofline.
It is hard to tell if Lexus has anything similar in production, but they clearly need to take a look at these renderings as the result is very attractive.
