Jay Leno drives the McLaren P1 supercar at Top Gear test track [video]

Jay Leno is the first person outside McLaren to test drive the P1. Recently he drove the P1’s rival, the 918 Spyder and now takes a closer look at the new British supercar.

He starts at the McLaren factory and is surprised how much it has changed since his last visit when the MP4-12C was launched. The P1 will be built at a rate of one car a day and 61 people are involved.

After a factory tour he takes a helicopter ride to the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey which most of you know as the Top Gear track.

The P1 is an impressive supercar combining a 627bhp twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine and a 176bhp electric motor. Combined power output is 903bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-62mph sprint in less than three seconds and to an electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

Priced from £866,000, the P1 production will be limited to just 375 units and of course Jay Leno has ordered one.
