Jaguar Unveils A New 2.2 Litre Diesel Engine In The XF Prototype

Jaguar XF prototype

Jaguar XF prototypeBack in February when we brought you spy photos of the Jaguar XF facelift, we reported that the luxury saloon will also get a new turbodiesel engine in addition to visual upgrades. Ahead of its public debut next month at the New York Auto Show, Jaguar has made it official that the facelifted XF will get a new 187bhp 2.2 litre diesel engine with 332 lb-ft of torque, that offers an impressive 52.3 mpg in the combined European cycle, and emits only 149 g/km of CO2.

This new engine is fitted with a water-cooled turbocharger, low friction pistons, a fresh crankshaft, new injectors, new electronic systems, and an intelligent Stop-Start system.

Mated to a new eight-speed ZF transmission, it takes 8.5 seconds to reach 60mph, while the top speed is 140 mph.

Jaguar also released two photos of the XF facelift, that wears the same disguise as the one we saw in Sweden. Most likely under this disguise is a new front fascia, sleeker and narrower headlights inspired from the new XJ and a larger grille. Changes to the back include revised taillights and a modified bumper as well.
