GT Cup Goes To The Wire

This week’s action at Donington sees the final and deciding rounds of the GT Cup Championship where the top four drivers are separated be a mere 6 points.

Current Championship leader #41 Derek Johnston took an early lead in his Ferrari 458 over #1 Jordan Witt’s Chevron GT3 but it didn’t last as Witt stormed past to finish first to grab vital points. Meanwhile #7 Kevin Riley’s Mosler stormed through the grid on the run up to Redgate to take and finish third, sounding like thunder among the quieter BMWs and Ginettas.

This year has seen depleted grids (just 10 cars in today’s race), no doubt due to the financial situation and in what some might consider a somewhat risky move, 2013 will see the Championship opened up to drivers holding an MSA Class ‘B’  (Novice) race license. This means that the grid could include drivers who have never raced on circuit before.
