Petrolheads, car nuts, F1 fanatics, gearheads, call them whatever you may, they’ve all got the same things in common, and although the alter at which they worship is one that many others don’t ‘get’, it is located parallel to another religion – football.
And for generations now, it has been very easy for followers of the round ball to display their strip of choice, beit the home, away, third choice or whatever jersey.
But what about us automotive fans? Well, the choice is a relatively easy one for the F1 fans, they can easily sport their team colours of choice, and in the case of a certain Italian team, they can also lie on the beach towel, wearing the sunglasses, reading the numerous books, whilst smelling of the aftershave of their team. For the remainder of the fans, it’s not always so easy. Well, easy is possibly not the right word, there’s jus not as much choice.
It was due to this, that caused me to stumble on a UK based company aptly named Slick Attire. I was intrigued by their site, which seemed to offer a variety of cool clothing with genuinely cool automotive and motorsport designs. The company was founded by Daniel Rooms under the original name of n138.net. The more nerdy of you will notice that N138 is the road that lead to LeMans. Rooms draws his inspiration from all over the petrolhead spectrum, although he admits he does tend to do lots of designs with LeMans references! And like a true LeMans geek, (sorry, fan), when the old road was renamed after the autoroute was built, Rooms also decided it was time to re-brand, and now Slick Attire allows him to reach an even wider audience.
His designs are both retro and also bang up to date. His ethos is to create clothing that firstly “doesn’t look too geeky”, in fact you can wear it anywhere, not just in “the safe environment of a car event” as he puts it with a wry smile. Most importantly though, Slick Attire don’t just perfect their cool designs, they also produce their work on top quality garments meaning that you’re going to get plenty of wear out of your item of choice.
