Never put a good man down, as the saying goes, and starting from the back of the grid didn’t seem to put much of a dent in Paul Follett’s drive for the title in Class 2 of the Porsche Club Championship today at Silverstone.
Featuring an Invitation class of 4 cars, three races of the UK club’s final round are being held on the same weekend as the annual Britcar 24 hour race on the Silverstone GP circuit. Going into this round, Paul already held a fairly safe lead over fellow 968 pedaller Alex Eacock, but it must have caused a few butterflies in his stomach when the paddock PA summond him to race control to be admonished for an overtake under yellow flags during qualifying on Friday. The punishment effectively disqualified him from qualifying, leaving him to start from the very last place on the split grid but with an additional 10 seconds of penalty to add to his misery.
But Paul is a hard charger and took the challenge like a red rag to a bull, and it wasn’t long before he was carving his way through the 30-car grid to land 2nd place spots on the podium for both Friday’s and Saturday’s first race.
Just one race remains, this afternoon, of the 2012 Championship with Paul this time starting from a spot he has been more accustomed to this season – near the front of the grid.
