There’s no doubt that 16-year-old Tyler Hopkin is a very brave youngster. Not only is he a GCSE student and carer to his mother, grandmother, younger brother and twin sisters, he’s a life saver. When a neighbour’s fuse box overheated, starting a fire, Tyler was both quick thinking and calm. He put a ladder to a first floor window and rescued six children, carrying them away from the flames and to safety.
The team at Noel Edmonds’ Sky 1 programme “Noel’s Christmas Presents” heard about Tyler’s bravery and before long, Tyler and his family set off on the trip of a lifetime, courtesy of the programme, and Ferrari North Europe – and friends.
Etihad Airways flew Tyler and his family to Dubai, to stay at the Yas Hotel, which overlooks the iconic Yas Marina F1 circuit. Next, ably supported by his programme’s travelling crew, Noel Edmonds turned up in a Ferrari California, surprising Tyler with a ride to Ferrari World, the theme park in Abu Dhabi that opened in time for the last F1 GP of the 2010 season.
Tyler and his family were then treated to a ride on Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster. Tyler and company experienced the feeling of travelling at 150mph and sustaining up to 4.8G, just as in a Formula One car. And this wasn’t all; Tyler and family went on to enjoy a wide range of other thrill rides at the theme park.
Matteo Torre, Regional Manager for Ferrari North Europe Ltd, commented: “As soon as we heard about Tyler’s incredible story, we were very keen to reward him for his bravery and commitment to his family. As Tyler is a Ferrari fan and enjoys riding roller coasters, what better way than to let him ride the world’s fastest rollercoaster at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi! There can be no doubt Tyler’s story touched the hearts of all us at Ferrari, and it is our privilege to provide Tyler with this experience.”
So, a well-deserved pat on the back for a very courageous lad. And if you want to see it for yourself, tune into Sky 1 or Sky 1 HD on Sunday 19th December.
