Could driving license really change your life?

For those of us who can already drive, we can’t imagine life what life would be like without this skill.  It opens unimaginable opportunities and is a big step towards independence from parents and public transport.

Yet learning to drive is a big commitment in terms of money and time, and some people decide it’s just not worth the effort.

But driving could actually be your best life achievement for a huge number of reasons:

  • Independence from parents

How many times have you asked for a lift from your parents, only to be told to wait five minutes, or an hour, or even longer?  Being able to drive means not only do you not have to wait for a lift anymore, you don’t even have to ask them for a lift in the first place.

Being able to drive is probably the biggest step towards independence that you’ll take; it means you have freedom to do what you want, when you want and without relying on anyone else to help you do it.

  • Opens up career opportunities

Okay, you might think you don’t need to worry about your future career just yet, but passing your test and being able to drive is one less thing to worry about when you’re trying to find a job that you love and pays a good wage.

It’s worth remembering that there are loads of jobs you need a driving licence to do, and even if it’s not an integral part of the role it’s unlikely you’ll find the job of your dreams within walking distance from your house.  Being able to drive means you stand a much better chance of being taken seriously by employers and will open up several career opportunities for you.

  • No more public transport

Let’s be honest – hands up if you actually enjoy getting on a bus or catching a train everywhere you go?  That’s no-one, right?  Public transport is notoriously unreliable, hot, smelly and expensive.  Why not invest in your driving now to save money in the long run?  No more waiting around for the number 79 to appear, as a driver you can simply get up, jump in your car and go.

  • No more walking in the hot/cold/wet

For those non-drivers out there you’ll know there are some occasions when your parents aren’t available, the buses aren’t running and you NEED to get somewhere.  This means the only option left is walking – even if it’s freezing cold, boiling hot or pouring with rain.  This is no fun at all.  Driving is the only answer!

  • You become an adult

Try to imagine your future life – you’re married, have children and a good job in the city.  You enjoy regular holidays abroad and breaks in the UK and have a large house in the country.  Seriously, how are you going to achieve these things if you can’t drive?

Learning to drive is a very worthy investment, even if you don’t plan to own a car right away acquiring the skills now gives you one less thing to worry about in later life.
