Careful Lady Owner... The Future Queen

Kate Middleton VW Golf on eBay

The Volkswagen Golf used by Kate Middleton and Prince William when they were dating at university is being auctioned on eBay.

The 2001 VW Golf 1.4 was bought by the current owner, Sonny Brazil, after his motor trader father took it in part exchance.  Sonny picked up the car for £1,400 in 2009 and, opportunitistically, has started bidding at £20,000.

The Duchess of Cambridge and future queen — her husband is second in line to the thrown after Prince Charles — owned the car while working at Jigsaw in London and while at university in St Andrews, where she met and started dating William.  After Kate, the car passed to her brother James but current owner Sonny has retained a copy of the log book referencing her ownership.  It’s this which means the hatchback could be worth as much as £30,000, Mr Brazil claims he has been advised by an auction house.

Mr Brazil also discovered a pair of silver cuff links in the Golf but is returning these to the Middleton family.  “These may have personal connections to the Middeleton’s.  It’s where they belong regardless of value” he says on the eBay auction.

A red Austin Metro belonging to William’s mother Diana when she first started dating Prince Charles now sits in the Museum of British Road Transport in Coventry.

The auction is running until next weekend and you can find it on eBay here.
