BMW Brilliance Previews 5 Series Plug-in Hybrid Prototype Ahead Of Shanghai Debut

BMW Brilliance Automotive, a BMW’s China unit, will show a new 5 Series plug-in hybrid concept at Auto Shanghai 2011 later this month.

The 5 Series plug-in hybrid will be exclusive to the Chinese market, and is based on the China-only long-wheelbase 5 Series, featuring 215bhp BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with a 94bhp electric motor.

The range in EV mode is 47 miles, with the speed of up to 37mph. Range with the petrol engine and a full tank is 250 miles.

Series production of the 5 Series plug-in hybrid is to start in China in 2013.
