Audi R8 GT Sport spied on the Nürburgring

Audi is working on a new top of the range R8 that will be called most likely R8 GT Sport not R8 GT Ultra like we reported last year.

Caught testing on the Nürbrurgring, the prototype has a new front splitter, enlarged side intakes and a huge rear wing compared to the facelifted model, which debuted last year.

Current top of the range R8 V10 Plus packs 550 horsepower from a 5.2-litre V10 and the new special edition model is expected to have around 600 horsepower. The previous R8 GT (before the facelift) that was limited to 333 units, produced 560 horsepower.

The R8 GT Sport would be Audi’s answer to Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series. Audi used the ‘Sport’ label last in 2005 on a limited edition TT quattro Sport.

Of course there is always a chance it is just a prototype for testing different technologies. We’ll see soon!
