Audi A3 and S3 saloons revealed [video]

Audi has unveiled the A3 and S3 saloons, which are available to order from the summer. Going against the recently introduced Mercedes CLA, the A3 saloon is 4460mm long, 1796mm wide and 1416mm high, with a wheelbase of 2400mm. Compared to the A3 Sportback it is 150mm longer, 11mm wider and 9mm lower, while the wheelbase remains 2636mm.

The boot’s carrying capacity is 425 litres, around 45 litres more than on the A3 Sportback. The rest of the cabin is identical to the already familiar A3 Sportback’s.

The A3 saloon will arrive at dealerships this autumn and will be offered from launch with a 138bhp 1.4-litre TFSI and 178bhp 1.8-litre TFSI petrols, and a 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The 1.4 TFSI delivers up to 60.1mpg.

The S3 saloon will follow in early 2014. Power comes from a 296bhp 2.0-litre TFSI engine, which enables it to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds when equipped with the optional six-speed double-clutch S-tronic automatic gearbox. The standard six-speed manual does it in 5.3 seconds.

Pricing details will be confirmed closer to market launch.
