All-new Mazda3 hatchback revealed

Mazda has unveiled the all-new 2014 Mazda3, featuring the Kobo design language which is already used on the CX-5 and new Mazda6.

The new model is about 60kg lighter than the outgoing model. New Mazda3 measures 4465mm in length, 1795mm in width and 1450mm in height, making it 5mm longer, 40mm wider and 20mm taller than the outgoing version. Wheelbase has been increased by 60mm to 2700mm.

The cabin is more spacious and comfortable, as well as one of the quietest in its class. It also features higher quality materials and an improved design. New model also features Active Driving Display behind the instrument cluster surround.

The boot capacity is 350 litres with the rear seats in place(up by 10 litres).

New safety systems include High Beam Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Obstruction Warning, Smart City Brake Support and Radar Cruise Control.

From launch different SkyActiv petrol engines and one diesel will be offered.

The new 1.5-litre petrol is available with 99 and 111bhp and when linked to a six-speed manual gearbox can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 10.8 seconds, while the top speed is 113 mph.

2.0-litre petrol is also available in two power outputs. 118bhp engines does 0-62 mph in 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 121 mph and the higher spec 162bhp engine does it in 8.2 seconds, while the top speed is 130 mph.

The one diesel available is a 148bhp 2.2-litre with 280 lb ft of torque, good for a 0-62 mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

Both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic are available.

The i-stop (Mazda’s stop-start system) is standard across the whole engine range. T i-Eloop brake-energy regeneration system is available on certain variants.

As you can see the new Mazda3 has improved greatly, making it a good alternative to the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf.
