395bhp Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept confirmed for production

Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept was revealed last week at the Beijing Motor Show, and is one of the coolest concepts we have seen in a long time.

Powered by a 395bhp 2.0-litre turbo-four cylinder with power sent to the 4Motion all-wheel drive via six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the hot hatch goes from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 180mph.

When Volkswagen unveiled the Golf R 400 concept last week, they mentioned only that the concept “reflects the sporty potential of the model series”.

Looks like there are some serious plans to take it into production as VW research and development chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser, has told Car and Driver “It’s going to be built.”

Reportedly the engine is quite similar to the one in production Golf R, having only received mild revisions in the interest of withstanding more boost.

This is surely exciting news. A Volkswagen Golf R with the same power output as Porsche 911 Carrera S is quite amazing!
