All-new Jaguar XE has been out for around a week by now, going against the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class.
The current range topping XE S uses a supercharged 335bhp 3.0-litre V6 linked to an eight-sped automatic transmission, taking it from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
That’s clearly not enough to take in the BMW M4, Audi RS 4 or upcoming Mercedes C 63 AMG.
A high-performance XE is likely to follow in early 2016, wearing the XE SVR badge. What’s under the bonnet is not official yet, but it is rumoured a a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 also found in the F-Type S with 489bhp will provide the motivation.
The renderings here are by Hungarian designer X-Tomi, who calls it XE RS, but as Land Rover Jaguar just started using SVR on high-performance models, we also expect Jaguar to use SVR designation for the range topping XE model.
