2016 Cadillac CTS-V reportedly packs a whopping 640bhp

Cadillac will be showing the next-generation CTS-V already next month at the Detroit Auto Show.

Previous prototypes have revealed a sportier and more aggressive body work with quad exhaust setup. This BMW M5, Audi RS 6 and Mercedes E 63 AMG fighter is expected to use a new supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine from the new Corvette Z06.

According to photographer Chris Doane, the engine develops 640bhp, which means the new CTS-V will have 84bhp more than its predecessor and just 10bhp less than the new Corvette Z06.

In comparison the new Mercedes E 63 AMG packs up to 577bhp from a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8, the BMW M5 up to 567bhp with the the competition package.

Cadillac has been heavily testing the CTS-V also on the Nürburgring, meaning this new American super saloon will be something the Germans need to watch out for.
