Cadillac has unveiled the all-new CT6 luxury saloon at the New York Auto Show. The CT6 marks Cadillac’s long-awaited return to the global prestige luxury segment, going against the likes of BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 and Mercedes S-Class.
“The CT6 is nothing less than an entirely new approach to premium luxury – and an approach only Cadillac can offer,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Cadillac. “It is a bold endeavor with unmatched dynamism that reignites a passion for driving in large luxury vehicles. In short, it is prestige luxury reimagined.”
The CT6 features an aluminium-intensive architecture that incorporates 11 different materials to achieve a very hight strength, performance and efficiency.
The CT6 measures 5184 mm in length, 1879 mm in width, 1472 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3106 mm. That’s roughly the same size as a short-wheelbase BMW 7 Series.
What’s really impressive is the weight of the CT6. Weighing 1678kg, it is one of the world’s lightest and most agile full-size luxury performance saloons. In fact the CT6 is lighter than the BMW 5-Series, 6-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Let’s not forget it goes against the bigger range-topping models!
Engine range includes a turbocharged 265bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a naturally-aspirated 335bhp 3.6-litre V6 and a twin-turbo 400bhp 3.0-litre V6.
All engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmissions which can be paired to an active-on-demand all-wheel drive system.
The upscale interior features a CUE infotainment system with a high-resolution 10.2-inch display, a wireless smartphone charger, a centre console mounted touchpad controller and OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Some of the options include an Articulating Rear Seat package featuring individual rear seats, a centre armrest with HDMI and USB inputs and rear seat entertainment system with articulating 10-inch screens that retract and deploy from the front seatbacks.
There is also a 34-speaker Bose Panaray premium audio system and Quadzone climate system.
The CT6 production will start end of 2016 for the North American market and in early 2016 for other markets like Europe, Korea, Japan, Israel and the Middle East.
