2015 Volkswagen Polo GTI facelift comes with 189bhp

Volkswagen has unveiled the updated Polo GTI at the Paris Motor Show with a new 189bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, that replaces the turbocharged and supercharged 1.4 TSI.

Power is up by 12bhp and torque by 70Nm with fuel economy rated at 47.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 139g/km.

The new 1.8 TSI can be linked to either a manual 6-speed gearbox or a 7-speed DSG. Surprisingly the seven-speed DSG produces 250Nm of torque, while the manual unleashes 320Nm.

This compact hot hatch goes from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds, while the top speed is 147mph.

Visually the updated Polo GTI reveals new bumpers, new grille, red accents, optional LED headlights, new 17-inch alloy wheels and a dual exhaust system at the rear.

There is also an optional ‘Sport Select’ suspension with electronically adjustable dampers and ‘Sport Performance Kit’ that offers more sporty tuning, covering a wide range of parameters, all at the push of a button.

Both three and five-door versions will be offered with prices expected to start from around £19,000 and first deliveries in early 2015.
