The Ford F-150 is the best selling vehicle in America and one of the most important models for the company.
Ford has now unveiled the all-new F-150 at the Detroit Auto Show with pretty big changes. The exterior design is heavily influenced by the Atlas concept, featuring an upright front fascia, big grille, very unique headlights, rounded fender flares and integrated spoiler on the tailgate.
Ford rightfully describes it as the “toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever.”
Thanks to aluminium alloy body and high-strength steel chassis, the new model is up to 317kg lighter than the outgoing model.
That means it is faster, stronger and of course more fuel efficient.
Ford did not reveal any engine specs, but the new model will be offered with four engines: a 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6, a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, a 3.5-liter V6 and a 5.0-litre Ti-VCT V8. The 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 will have start/stop technology and the “same power as some mid-range V8s.”
The cabin has an evolutionary design with higher quality materials and technologies like SYNC, MyFord Touch and an 8-inch “productivity screen” in the instrument cluster, rear view camera, trailer brake controller, a 360-degree camera system and high-wattage power outlets.
The new F-150 also comes with integrated loading ramps, smart trailer tow module, trailer hitch assist, LED bed lights, a remote tailgate and a BoxLink system with metal brackets and custom cleats for securing cargo.
Sales start later this year and five trim levels will be available including XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch.
