2015 Aston Martin Vanquish and Rapide S get a new 8-speed Touchtronic III automatic gearbox

Aston Martin has unveiled changes to the 2015 model year Vanquish and Rapide S. The biggest update is the introduction of a new Touchtronic III eight-speed automatic gearbox.

In addition engineers have reduced exhaust gas back pressure as a result of ratio adjustment and other changes, which raises power up to three bhp to a total output of 568bhp in Vanquish, and by two bhp to 552bhp in Rapide S. Peak torque is up by 10Nm at 630Nm at 5,500 rpm in both cars.

The biggest news is that the new gearbox has improved performance of both models, with Vanquish going from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and Rapide S in 4.4 seconds. That’s a full half second improvement on both models.

Thanks to revised final drive, for the first time, both models are now capable of top speeds over 200mph.

In addition CO2 figure is also improved and down to 298 g/km for Vanquish and 300 g/km for Rapide S. Average fuel economy is 31mpg, an average 11% improvement.

Other ’15 model year updates include latest Bosch Engine Management System, new lighter ten-spoke forged alloy wheels, new paint options, new interior leather trim and headlining colours.

Market launch is scheduled in Q3 this year, with pricing to be announced in due course.
